Turkiye 2023: Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia
Another 2 hours of bus ride from the Caravanserai (last post) to the next destination, the fairy chimneys. Cappadocia is one of the top reasons why I wanted to go to Turkiye, and finally on day 11 of 14 we finally reached it.
According to the internet, fairy chimneys are natural yet surreal-looking spires up to 130 feet (40 meters) tall that were carved out of soft volcanic rock by the elements over millions of years.
So once the bus halted in the parking lot, the tour manager let us all loose, like a shepherd telling the sheep go and graze and be back here on the bus at this time. And like sheep, we went and grazed, so to speak.
We visited the fairy chimneys of Uchisar Valley. The sight is truly incredible. You'd think something like this is too whimsical and fantastical to be true. And yet, they are here right in front of our eyes. The group was visibly in awe at all these rock formations. We wasted no time and took the steps down to the valley and see these structures up close.
Let's get this out of the way now, the cat photo. It was sunning itself on the steps, making sure it posed the most incovenience for humans who were excited to get down to the valley.
As we were walking on the path we saw some of our tour mates inside one of these fairy chimneys. We wanted to see the inside too. We found the house after a little backtracking for a more direct path and was not very surprised to learn that we have to pay to get in. By this time, it was just the four of us in the house and no one else. The house was huge inside and consisted of two separate chimneys. We entered the first chimney and the front room has some merch for sale, while the kitchen was off the side of this large room. Exiting this room we find an outdoor garden with lovely flowers. Entering the second chimney off the garden, there's a bedroom and a balcony.
Now we were told that only during the summer do they live here. I was thinking this could be profitable as an AirBnB, although I have not seen any bathroom in this particular dwelling.
This area would be our home for two nights and the sights were unbelievable.
Sun was setting on the drive to the hotel.
Lobby of hotel.
This was a most rewarding day.

Amazing photos! What a fascinating visit you had - glad you brought us along with you virtually!

This is the image that always comes to mind when I think of Cappadocia. So that is what they are called, fairy chimneys. They also are a great background when those air balloons litter the skies.
ReplyDeleteLoving how people live in the rocks, they look very comfortable on the inside and i love the cat.
