Costa Rica 2024: Rainmaker Conservation Park & ATV adventure

I believe our hotel is still part of Quepos town.

The second half of the day was for ATV adventure.

We were picked up by a van at the hotel and the guy's name, which turned out to be our guide, is Bayron. It was quite a ride out to the spot for ATV which turned out to be Rainmaker Conservation Park, which is a private park (read here about the park). Along the way, Bayron answered questions and doled out bits of info about Costa Rica and this area in particular. We passed by palm tree plantations for a long stretch of road. Bayron also told us that this was not just an ATV adventure; this also included lunch and a hike. Since we were picked up after lunch we were told that the meal would be served after both adventures were completed.

A short stop at the tour company office. Bayron on the left with the hat.

The Rainmaker Conservation Park is a jungle hike with well-marked trails, hanging bridges, stone bridges, a number of waterfalls and some watering holes or swimming areas. I thought, how wonderful it would be to spend a whole day here with the swimming holes by the waterfalls and shallow rivers. It's a gorgeous place. You can also just come here on your own without a guide and explore the place at your pace.

On the hike we saw a lizard that has a protruding or enlarging jaw or neck, or whatever body part is is, but I was too slow to capture it on camera. We also saw a cicada. Bayron saw a snake slither away from the path into the brush. On the way back we saw a tiny frog that was all over the net as one fo the reasons to go to Costa Rica. Bayron said he has not seen it for a very long time on his tours, so he was very excited about it and asked me to send him the photo.

This is the best I could in the dark surroundings under the trees. Bayron said the night hike tour gets to see them a lot, but not his day tour.

After the hike, we immediately walked over to the shed a few meters from the only structure in the park that housed the sign-in area, restaurant and the small gift shop. The shed is where they keep the ATVs. We chose to do the tandem vehicles. A test drive was conducted before we went out of the compound. This was a long adventure - very fun, but longer than all of us expected. The fact that this turned out to be a private tour for us since no other signed up for this adventure made it easier for Bayron and his assistant and I believe they made some improvisation to the itinerary to add more route, but I could be wrong.

Ready to leave the shed.

As we were leaving the compound, I shot this little video, and the rest of the videos came from Bayron's assistant. So glad he captured our adventure.

We were all so muddied so we cleaned up at the river. However, the ride back also went to the same route, which again muddied us.

We took a souvenir shot on a bridge earlier in the ride.

The tour ended with a meal, which was a set meal of chicken casado for everybody. It was very dark when we got into the van on the ride back to the hotel. Twas a fun day.
