Iceland & Greenland Cruise (August) 2024: Day 3 - Akureyri, part 3
On the drive back to Akureyri, it rained. And surprise, surprise we could see Godafoss Waterfalls from the road.
On the drive back we could see the ship from across the water.
And the town too.
We stopped at N1, a gas station to see if they sell Band-Aid, since I have used up my emergency supply on Day 3. Also, we saw earlier that they sell traditional lamb soup here, which we seriously wanted to taste. The gas station didn't have either one, so we went next door to the burger shop.
The fastfood store has a drive-thru so I had my pic taken with it, sigh tourist! The fastfood didn't carry the lamb soup either.
Next we drove to town to check out the church.
Heart-shaped traffic lights, how cute!
The church on top of the hill overlooking the town is called Akureyrarkirkja, which translates to Akureyri Church. It's easy to find. It was closed when we visited. It was also designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and completed in 1940.
The side and the back.
Another on my personal must-see list is the Christmas House, a kitschy attraction just outside of town. The Christmas House is two floors of everything Christmas. So if you're a certified Christmas lover then this is your jam.
Next to the Christmas House is the Bunny's house. We spotted the resident bunny having a meal.
There are a few other buildings inside the grounds.
After the visit, we stopped at a grocery store on the other side of town where we found Band-Aid. Then back to the ship.
The port from the ship.
Nutella crepe is my default snack while on cruise.
Leaving Akureyri. What a lovely day, despite the rain and the cold.
