Iceland & Greenland Cruise (August) 2024: Day 8 - Sea Day (Prince Christian Sound)

After a back-to-back port days, I looked forward to a little relaxing sea day. This was one particularly special sea day since we were cruising the Prince Christian Sound. This narrow fjord (60 miles long) cuts through the southernmost tip of Greenland, separating the mainland from the Cape Farewell Archipelago and connecting the Labrador Sea with the Irminger Sea. It is named after Prince Christian who later became King Christian VIII of Denmark. Now, what makes this a mainstay in the cruising circuit is the dramatic natural beauty with the landscape characterized by tidewater glaciers (about 150 of them), floating icebergs, rocks.

Imagine my surprise to find that we were actually "parked" by a glacier head by the time we were about to have breakfast. Well, the breakfast had to wait as we prioritized photographing everything.

The boat went near three different glaciers (from the 150 of them according to the information online), and I don't know or remember which ones we went to see.

As close as we possibly could.
