Iceland & Greenland Cruise (August) 2024: Day 11 - Goodbye Iceland
On disembarkation day, we got off the boat early in the hopes of seeing more of Reykjavik by way of driving around town.
We arrived at downtown - the same one we visited upon arrival. This was a Sunday and very early in the morning so the streets were empty and the stores were still shut.
Driving around admiring the architecture and the murals.
An early cat catches the tourist.
The sky was particularly pretty.
After a bit, one souvenir store opened earlier than the rest and so I was able to do some last-minute shopping. It didn't occur to me that the stores would be opened late so I had to make do with the pricing on this store.
One last snap of the church as we were driving out of downtown towards the airport.
As soon as we joined the traffic on the main highway, we spotted a Costco. Naturally, we made a quick exit to check it out. We made a cursory look at the merchandize and made our way to the food court and bought a hotdog, which is also priced the same in Iceland. It tasted the same. The only difference is the bun here in the US has sesame seeds, it's a plain bun in Iceland.
Back on the road towards the airport, the day was awashed with sunshine. Where was this glorious weather yesterday? I got to indulge in photographing the passing scenery.
We entered the United States through Portland. Had just enough time to grab dinner in the airport before our short flight back home.
This cruise/trip was a bucket list item for us. We feel so blessed that we get to tick off these two places.
Another year is ending. It's been such an unforgettable year marked with wonderful adventures and sad goodbyes to people we hold dear.
Happy New Year! Here's wishing you a year of prosperity, growth, love and peace! And thank you for visiting my little corner of the web.
