Day Trip To Sonoma Coast
One of our favorite day trip destinations is the Sonoma Coast, especially in the summer time when heat comes down to the bay. However, this particular day in late August of 2025 was not hot. We just needed the therapeutic properties of a road trip, sand on the toes, and the smell of salty sea breeze.
The Sonoma Coast is comprised of several beaches separated by rock bluffs and headlands. Sonoma Coast SP spans 17 miles from Bodega Head to Vista Trail which is located approximately 4 miles north of Jenner. I have always enjoyed this drive to Jenner. And our favorite stop is Goat Rock Beach.
We stopped at a vista point to watch elephant seals.
The fog is a common sight here.
On the way back, we finally got to stop at Duncans Mills, just 4 miles inland from the coast. It's a very small unincorporated community with a population of 85 and has a few stores. A great stop for shopping and for refreshments.
My husband and I enjoy these day trips. For us it is a very cost-effective way to have adventures, quick escape to nearby destinations and more importantly they boost mental health.
