January 2026 Skies
The act of making a New Year's Resolution has escaped me a long time ago. In the first place, I didn't put too much stock in this venture anyway, ever since I failed horribly at making good of my New Year's Resolution. The cause of this traumatic experience with making resolutions happened when I was about 10 years old. To keep my mom from nagging me to bathe everyday, I promised I would take the initiative to take a bath every day before my mom told me to do so. I managed to keep that going for 10 straight days, and that's all. I learned early on, that stick-to-itiveness did not come to me naturally and effortlessly. Ever since then, I shied away from even the mention of it.
Late last year when I was cleaning up my photo albums because Google keeps reminding me that I'm close to running out of room, I noticed that my sky photos were not as plentiful as the previous years. Knowing how I slackened last year about my skywatching activity, I made a resolution to be more deliberate, proactive, and mindful of skywatching because I still love doing that. There are few things that make me more joyful than looking up to an incredible cloudscape or the golden hues of sunrises and sunsets. I would love to be more present in the skywatching activity this year.
So by posting these thoughts and this promise, I am setting myself to see this project through the end of the year. Please call me out if I'm slacking.
So here's my January skies for everyone's enjoyment, mostly mine.
January 10 sunset, on Interstate 80, captured while on the way to the grocery store.
January 17, out on a walk about a little past 5 pm.
January 17, still out for a walk, about 30 minutes later from the previous image.
The following photos were from a litte detour to Costco Folsom and the drive back home, January 18th.
Costco parking lot while loading groceries.
Didn't mind the long wait for the light to turn green.
Taking the ramp to Highway 50.

The clouds looked like a pod of dolphins to us.
Almost 6 pm sky.

ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely, honest reflection - and the skies reward that intention beautifully!
