March 2026 Skies
So far, I'm doing what I set out to do and that is post a monthly sky shots. March 2026 is on track to be one of the driest Marches in Bay Area history recording little to no rain through March 29th (time of writing). This dry spell is expected to be broken with rain forecast between March 30th and early April. Hopefully, we get more than what is predicted. A heatwave struck the Bay Area in mid March setting all-time monthly records, most notable in my mind is San Francisco hitting 90F on March 20th, breaking the record set in 1874 of 78F. Global warming is real.
Still working hybrid schedule, I use my coffee break in the morning when I WFH to take a walk around the neighborhood.
After work in the afternoon, I take another walk around the neighborhood, just in time for sunset sighting.
Another day, another sunset.
Skywatching while listening to Irish music at St. Patrick's Celebration in Dublin, California.
On March 28, we drove to St. Helena in Napa Valley to have brunch. Afterwards we attempted to burn the calories from the butter-laden
pastries we consumed at brunch by walking around downtown. Surprisingly, we found dogwoods in full bloom. Aren't they early this year? I remember in the past that they bloom in mid to late May around these parts. Can you tell me when do they bloom in your neck of the woods?
Looking up at the blue skies through the dogwood blooms.
A block and a half from my house is a hillside (open space) that offers a good view of the fireworks from 3 or 4 neighboring cities. It is also home to deers, wild turkeys and other wildlife (saw a coyote on the same spot). This is at twilight while I was on my way back home completing my walk. I have never seen this many at one time.

That heatwave was so bad. I am really enjoying the recent rain and the plants seem to love it too. Dogwoods are one of my favourite flowers. I will try to stop by St. Helena this weekend and see I can spot a few. It's not far from where we live. Really lovely photos!!

I love the variety of the photos and views.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful 'Bay Area in March' pics. <3
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - that heatwave came in too early. And then the unexpected thunderstorms in April. And before we know it, the summer heatwaves will be here.
Looking forward to seeing more spring pics through your lens. :)
Beautiful skies and blooming trees! All of Colorado has been very low in snowpack and rain this winter and spring. It is worrisome for water supplies and wildfire danger. I am hoping a new weather system will bring some well needed rain to the west this summer.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset photos. I love your view of the bay!
ReplyDeleteYou live in a beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteAmazing views, great skies.
ReplyDeleteLoved the post.
Great skies.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, these photos make me want to sing and just run into the quiet stillness of nature to soak up the sunshine today. I can almost feel the warmth on my skin and hear the gentle breeze. The skies are beautiful. The drastic temperature shifts in the Bay Area, especially that record-breaking day in San Francisco, highlight how much the climate is changing. Seeing dogwoods in full bloom in March at St. Helena is quite surprising, as they typically wait until much later in the spring to reveal those white petals. In many regions, mid-May is the more traditional time for them to reach their peak. The sight of so much wildlife on the hillside near your home during twilight is a wonderful way to end a walk. Having a space where deer and turkeys gather so close to the city provides a peaceful connection to nature. You are invited to read the latest post on the blog at https://www.melodyjacob.com/

ReplyDeleteWonderful skies.
ReplyDeleteDublin, California is enjoying the Spring weather with flowering trees and a grassy hilltop. Clap. Clapping. Still clapping to the Irish music.
ReplyDeleteLoved the subtle shifts in color and mood across these shots. Nicely done.
