Lucerne, Switzerland: Day 2
Day 2 in Lucerne was going to be a busy day so we got an early start. When the bus stopped in front of Lowen Center in central Lucerne, there was almost nobody on the street except our group. The storefronts all appeared to still be closed. We walked to the first stop, which was the Lion Monument or the Lion of Lucerne.
The tree was up.
The Lion of Lucerne is a rock relief designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn by Lukas Ahorn in 1820-21 to commemorate the Swiss guards killed in the French Revolution. It is located inside a small park.
The face of lion shows sorrow, its eyes appear heavy and lifeless, capturing the exhaustion and tragedy of defeat. It's quite powerful and affected us.
After a short visit to the Lion Monument, back to the bus for a drive to Mount Rigi. The drive to Mt. Rigi, which is located in the town of Weggis (sounds like Vegas) was about 25 minutes depending on the traffic. Mainly it’s a short bus ride, but we passed by several small towns or villages with a variety of chalets. Just so joyful to look out and see the passing scenery - that is my jam, so to speak.
We have arrived.
