Lucerne, Switzerland: Day 2, part 2

No trip to Switzerland is complete without pausing to admire its majestic peaks, and today was the day we would do just that. Arriving in Weggis, the sheer beauty of the Lake Lucerne region left me completely spellbound. Today's highlight is a visit to Mt. Rigi.

It took about 20 or so minutes before we took the cable car up the mountain, which left us plenty of time to enjoy the view of the surroundings.

Despite my fear of heights, I was excited to board.

The views from the cable car were incredible as you might expect.

Once we got off the cable car, we reached the Rigi Kaltbad which is a popular alpine wellness area featuring mineral baths and spa. This was not the mountain top yet, we still have to take the cogwheel train, which opened in 1871 as Europe's first cogwheel mountain train.

While waiting for the train to take us up the mountain, we took photos.

The spectacular scenery continued as the train climbed up. We passed by people walking down and saw several accommodations for skiers along the train route.

Mt. Rigi is known as the Queen of the Mountains due to its long history as a premier tourism destination for sweeping views and fresh air. This was the plan B for this trip as the peak we were originally planned to see had closed operations for maintenance in preparation for the upcoming winter/ski season.

We took the same cogwheel train back down after the visit, but this time we did not stop in Rigi Kaltbad, but in nearby Vitznau town.

The tourist bus met us in Vitznau and the ride back to Lucerne was as beautiful as the ride here.
